Aprilia 1-2 in MotoGP's truncated Brazilian GP

Aprilia dominated a shortened Brazilian Grand Prix MotoGP race at Goiania, as Marco Bezzecchi took the championship lead.

A surprise slashing of the race distance from 31 laps to 23 was announced minutes before the start, with riders already on the grid and locked into their tyre choices.

MotoGP subsequently communicated "track degradation" as the cause - coming on the heels of lengthy repairs on Saturday to fill a hole on the main straight caused by rainfall.

Bezzecchi blasted past poleman Fabio Di Giannantonio off the line and established a considerable cushion immediately, which quickly grew further as Di Giannantonio went wide at Turn 1 a lap later and opened the door to Marc Marquez.

Bezzecchi's team-mate Jorge Martin had dropped behind a fast-starting Pedro Acosta, but swiftly retook position - then picked up the pieces when a Turn 4 Di Giannantonio lunge on Marquez on lap six made a two-for-one overtake possible.

By that point Bezzecchi had gone over two seconds clear. Unlike on Saturday, the Ducatis had no answer to the Aprilias in pace, with the gap between Bezzecchi and Martin hovering around two seconds for a while in a faint hint of a plausible victory battle - but with Martin ultimately unable to make any meaningful inroads.

It meant that at the chequered flag Bezzecchi celebrated a fourth consecutive grand prix win - having led all 101 laps in these four races.

Martin took the chequered flag 3.2s back for his best Aprilia finish yet, capping off what was very obviously his best Aprilia weekend yet.

Marquez looked to have made his inevitable late-race pass on Di Giannantonio on lap 19, forcefully ushering the VR46 Ducati wide of the racing line, but then made a mistake on the next lap - nearly crashing and surrendering third place to Di Giannantonio.

Trackhouse Aprilia rider Ai Ogura had a torrid launch from the grid and was close to falling out the top 10 - but muscled his way up the order to nab fifth from Gresini Ducati's Alex Marquez on the final lap.

His finish meant Aprilia got three bikes in the top five, a round on from finishing with four bikes in the top five.

Acosta was again miles clear of his fellow KTM riders and made an early impression on the race as he'd gambled on the soft rear - but ultimately could only trundle home in seventh.

Top 5 in MotoGP standings

1 Marco Bezzecchi - 56
2 Jorge Martin - 45
3 Pedro Acosta -  42
4 Fabio Di Giannantonio - 37
5 Marc Marquez - 34

Fermin Aldeguer, in a special green Gresini livery (which team-mate Alex Marquez also campaigned), brought the bike home in eighth place on his injury return, while LCR Honda's Johann Zarco and Trackhouse Aprilia's Raul Fernandez completed the top 10.

There were no Fabio Quartararo heroics unlike in the sprint, and Yamaha's honour was instead upheld by Alex Rins - who grabbed a 14th-place finish.

Four riders crashed out of the race. Jack Miller (Trackhouse Aprilia) and Brad Binder (KTM) exited early, while Pecco Bagnaia (Ducati) and Joan Mir (Honda) both went down on the 11th lap.

Bagnaia was in 11th, trying to catch and overtake Zarco, when he crashed at Turn 1, while Mir let seventh place slip out of his grasp at the tricky Turn 4, which had caused crash after crash all weekend.
