Kaden Honeycutt Finishes A Disappointing Third At His Home Track, Texas Motor Speedway

JUSTIN, Tex. – Kaden Honeycutt grew up in the proverbial shadow of Texas Motor Speedway, just a few hundred miles and five hours away (it’s a really big state) and nothing would have made him happier Friday night than winning the Speedycash.com 250 at his home track.
The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver had his shot but in his words, he didn’t capitalize on or take advantage of the opportunities when he’s had them. It’s the same problem he’s faced nearly every time he’s led the field; he just can’t quite seem to close out the win, even though many in the garage believe that may soon change.
“It’s disappointing for sure, I’ve just gotta figure out how to win,” Honeycutt said, after the race. “I mean, there’s no other excuse for it. Yeah, just when I got to the lead, I didn’t protect on Carson (Hocevar) right, just gave up my left rear and then he ran me out of the groove at three and four, as suspected, just and then I was racing Kyle Busch.”
Honeycutt only led one time for a total of three laps but he was fast all night long and stayed at the front of the field. He finished Stage 1 in fourth and Stage 2 in second, ending the race in third after only two starts at the track.
As he battled with Hocevar, he also had Busch sneaking up behind him with nothing to lose for the Cup Series veteran. Busch has multiple wins at Texas Motor Speedway and holds the record for most wins, at 68, in the Craftsman Truck Series.
“Once I got to Kyle, I accidentally gave him the top, I just didn’t do a good job protecting it. So, yeah, just gotta learn how to win. I just gotta learn how to win with fast race trucks,” he said. “And it’s eating me alive. I just gotta figure it out.”
