Sutton secures Qualifying Race success

NAPA Racing UK's Ash Sutton secured victory in the Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship Qualifying Race at Brands Hatch, extending his early advantage in the overall standings.

Having taken two wins and a second place at the Donington Park curtain raiser, Sutton's #116 Ford Focus Titanium started today's bout with zero boost by virtue of his championship position.

Despite starting from fourth, Sutton then had a front row seat watching an opening lap tangle between pole-sitter Tom Ingram (Team VERTU) and Daryl DeLeon (WSR) when the latter fired his BMW down the inside of the reigning champion's Hyundai through Graham Hill Bend.

Both cars ran wide, allowing Sutton's machine to slip through and into the lead, whilst DeLeon slipped back into second ahead of NAPA Racing UK's Dan Cammish.

The podium positions remained the same until the finish but there was one heart-in-mouth moment for the young DeLeon has he ran wide through the final corner of the race while attacking for the lead.

The Team VERTU duo of Ricky Collard and Ingram had to settle for fourth and fifth respectively, with the latter also setting the fastest lap of the contest.

An early incident involving Adam Morgan (Cataclean Plato Racing), Charles Rainford (WSR) and Tom Chilton (Team VERTU) sent two of the three tumbling down the order, whilst Josh Cook (Speedworks Corolla Racing) faced late heartache with a mechanical issue for his #66 machine.

Morgan managed to bring his Mercedes home in sixth ahead of the Audi A3 Saloon pairing of Mikey Doble (LKQ Euro Car Parts with Power Maxed Racing) and Dexter Patterson (Steel Seal with Power Maxed Racing), whilst the Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport Corollas of Árón Taylor-Smith and Gordon Shedden were next in the order.

Rounds 4, 5 and 6 of the 2026 Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship take place at Brands Hatch tomorrow with the action getting underway in the UK on ITV4 from 10:45, with the races also being beamed around the world on Racer TV (North America) and YouTube (Rest of the World).
