Joan Mir has lost his and Honda’s Catalan Grand Prix MotoGP podium due to a tyre pressure infraction.

Mir's second-place finish was immediately revealed as being in jeopardy after the conclusion of the 12-lap race (the third attempt of running the grand prix, after two red flags) as an investigation was announced.

And it was confirmed nearly two hours after the finish that he would not escape the customary 16-second sanction - and thus that he would give up what was a third grand prix podium finish in his time at Honda.

The sanction to Mir comes as a surprise given he spent much of the restarted race in the wheeltracks of KTM's Pedro Acosta, which should've in theory helped him keep the front tyre pressure above the minimum threshold.

Gresini Ducati rider Fermin Aldeguer has been promoted to second, and factory Ducati rider Pecco Bagnaia took the final podium spot.

Mir was among six riders placed under tyre pressure investigation in the immediate aftermath of the race - with Bagnaia also on the list, along with Yamaha riders Jack Miller, Alex Rins and Toprak Razgatlioglu.

The Yamaha trio have all been sanctioned, too, receiving a 16-second penalty each. They drop from 11th, 14th and 15th to 14th through 16th.

But there is no news yet on a Bagnaia verdict, with it being rumoured in the paddock that he will not be sanctioned, which would normally suggest a significant mitigating circumstance or correction in the sensor findings.
