Fastest ever day-one lap: What happened on Tuesday at Isle of Man TT

Dean Harrison laid down a marker on the first night of timed practice for the 2026 Isle of Man TT by setting an impressive 133.925mph lap - the fastest ever opening-day effort of the 37.73-mile Mountain Course circuit.
The Honda rider, who comes into this year's event as many people's favourite given the strength of his build-up and a strong North West 200, set not one but two 133mph laps and was the only rider to go above the 130mph mark at the first attempt after Monday's opening session was cancelled due to a red flag.
Harrison's pair of 133mph laps left him considerably ahead of the best average time of Michael Dunlop, a 130.341mph, in second, while local racer Nathan Harrison was the third and final racer in the Superbike class to lap faster than 130mph on Tuesday night.
Outright lap record holder Peter Hickman, still recovering from the injuries he sustained 12 months ago in a practice crash, was seventh among the Superbike field.
In the Superstock class, Josh Brookes topped the times with the night's fourth and final 130mph lap, while Dunlop was unsurprisingly fastest in the Supersport class on his factory-backed Ducati V2 Panigale. Paul Jordan was quickest in the newly renamed Sportsbike class.
Tuesday's running was not stoppage-free, though - with the red flags coming out halfway through the Sidecar class's first timed session.
Race control said that sidecar pair Maria Costello and Shaun Parker had come off at Brandish, near the end of the lap, on their second attempt.
Both were taken to Noble's hospital - Costello by helicopter and Parker by ambulance - and were reported as conscious as talking.
Costello had reported head injuries, while Parker had reported leg and arm injuries.
Qualifying will resume on Wednesday with a new-for-2026 daytime schedule that will involve roads closing at 12.30pm, before Thursday's rest day.
