Opening TT 2026 race day called off

The opening day of racing at the 2026 Isle of Man TT has been scrapped due to weather concerns.
Heavy fog blanketed the lower sections of the course on Saturday morning just as the three-lap Superstock TT was due to get underway at 11am local time.
Organisers first announced an initial one-hour delay to the schedule, followed by a second one - but, with rain forecast for the afternoon meaning that they had a smaller and smaller window in which to run the race, they made the decision at 11:30am to suspend the entire day’s action.
“The weather has closed in,” TT clerk of course Gary Thimpson announced in the paddock, “and visibility is severely reduced from the Bungalow through to the start line.
“It’s unlikely to lift now, and will get progressively worse in the afternoon as a band of rain is due to come through.
“The decision is that today’s three lap superstock race is cancelled for now. We will amend the schedule during the week, and try again tomorrow with the six-lap superbike race.”
Sunday’s forecast looks better, with only the remnants of Saturday evening’s rain due overnight before a clear day that should allow TT bosses the chance to run the race in dry conditions.
Saturday’s schedule had already been reorganised once as it was originally due to feature the first sidecar race too, before the category was suspended for 2026 following the Crowe brothers’ qualifying crash.
