Senior TT moves to Friday as another new schedule issued

The 2026 Senior TT at the Isle of Man TT will now run for four laps instead of six, and will move forward to Friday from Saturday as part of a revised schedule released on Wednesday by organisers, amid torrential rain and low fog that has severely disrupted this year’s race week schedule.
The Senior TT, the race’s blue riband event, will now join a three-lap Supersport TT and a two-lap Sportsbike TT (both cut by a lap) on Friday, while Thursday’s schedule currently has the first Superstock TT race - one that may be, according to the weather forecast, unlikely to go ahead given that Wednesday’s disruption looks set to continue for another 24 hours.
“I’ve had to take the decision today to cancel the activities due to the inclement weather,” TT clerk of course Gary Thompson explained on Wednesday evening.
“We’ve had a lot of rainfall, there’s low cloud and mist on the mountain, and today is cancelled - which moves us on to tomorrow. We’re looking at the same sort of thing; prolonged showers throughout the day.
“If there is any window of opportunity we will hold the superstock race, but if we lose tomorrow then one of the superstock races will be cancelled. Not ideal, but unfortunately with the time left, we are where we are.
“On Friday the weather is looking good, and we’re looking at running three races. We’re bringing the Senior race forward, because obviously it’s the headline race of the event and we’re bearing in mind that we lost it last year.”
That will then mean that Saturday, originally scheduled to have only the Senior TT, will feature both the second sportsbike and second superstock races take place for their scheduled three-lap full distance.
But, with further rain on the forecast for the start of the weekend, organisers have also admitted that the contingency option of racing on Sunday is an option that they’re seriously considering, should Saturday be disrupted.
“We’ve got inclement weather on Saturday and Sunday,” Thompson added, “but right now Saturday is looking like the better day, and on either day we’re looking at running the second superbike and second sportsbike race.
“That’s where we’re at. It’s hugely disappointing for everyone, be it competitors, teams, officials, marshals or of course spectators. We’ve been hit by bad weather this week, but we’re absolutely doing what we can to get races in.”
