WSR target more success at Oulton Park
A re-energised WSR team continue to push for Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship success at Oulton Park this weekend (6/7 June) as the series moves to Cheshire for the fourth event of the season.
The 18-time title winners hold second place in the Teams’ championship after a fast and consistent start to the season, the highlights of which were victory for Charles Rainford and two podium finishes for team-mate Daryl De Leon at Snetterton last time out.
Rainford is third in the Drivers’ points table after his victory, which was the second of his BTCC career and was accompanied by the best weekend total of his career (52 points) during an event at which he was the top-scoring driver overall.
The BMW 330i M Sport driver’s results at Snetterton also lifted him to fourth in the Independents’ standings, just three points away from the series lead.
The 27-year-old from Horsham now returns to a circuit where he mounted the podium in the Porsche Carrera Cup in 2022 and was a top-10 finisher in his rookie BTCC season last year.
Team-mate De Leon holds third place in the Independents’ standings – only two points behind the leader – and sixth in the overall championship following his two third-place finishes at Snetterton.
They were his first podium finishes of the season and were, like Rainford, accompanied by his best-ever weekend points haul (41).
The Anglo-Filipino, who is based in Cambridgeshire, was a double winner at Oulton Park in the Radical UK Cup when it supported the BTCC in 2023 and last year used the weekend to increase his lead in the Jack Sears Trophy, a contest in which he would be crowned champion later in the year.
WSR’s record at Oulton Park is especially strong with 19 race wins, including a treble win and an all-BMW podium in 2023.
