TT issues update on injured riders' conditions

The organisers of the Isle of Man TT have released an update on the competitors injured during Friday’s three-race schedule at the 2026 event, with local racer Jamie Cringle the most seriously injured after his crash at Union Mills during the opening Supersport TT race.

Cringle was transferred to Noble’s Hospital (only a few miles from where he crashed) by ambulance following his crash, where TT organisers described his condition as ‘conscious, stable and talking,’ before being subsequently transferred to Aintree Hospital in Liverpool by Coast Guard helicopter later in the evening.

A crowdfunding campaign launched to support the self-employed plumber detailed the full extent of his injuries, with an open compound fracture of his tibia and fibula that led to extensive blood loss among the most serious of his injuries.  He also suffered a broken sternum and bruising to his heart.

In 2024, the Isle of Man TT’s air ambulances became the first motorsport medical team to carry blood and to be able to give trackside transfusions to injured competitors.

In the subsequent Sportsbike TT, Michael Evans had his second crash of this year’s event, this time at Braddan. He was described as suffering no serious injuries, and continues to receive treatment.

In the Senior TT, 2022 Macau Grand Prix winner Erno Kostamo crashed at the 11th Milestone, bringing out the red flags. He was treated at the scene before being transferred to Noble’s Hospital and subsequently transferred to Aintree Hospital for further treatment to leg and hip injuries.

The fundraiser for sidecar racer Maria Costello, who suffered life-changing spinal injuries in practice week when she struck a hare, has now raised an incredible £217,000.

Double British Superbike champion Kyle Ryde has launched another fundraiser for Costello, with plans to ride the 300 miles from his home in Nottinghamshire to Knockhill for the next round of the BSB championship on his Honda Monkey paddock bike

Costello’s passenger Shaun Parker, whose separate fundraiser has collected over £10,000, continues to receive treatment for his injuries, while sidecar duo Callum and Ryan Crowe have been released from hospital with fractures following their incident that prompted the sidecar class to be suspended for 2026.
