Cammish races to pole at Oulton Park

NAPA Racing UK's Dan Cammish claimed his first ever Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship Qualifying Race win at Oulton Park earlier today (6 June) after inheriting the triumph from on-track leader รrรณn Taylor-Smith.

As per recent meetings, the action kicked off almost immediately with Team VERTU's Tom Chilton going off at high speed on the approach to Island Bend with cars getting bunched up on the first lap, whilst both Gordon Shedden and Dan Rowbottom were soon in the pitlane following contact Hislops.

More was to follow on the second tour as Nic Hamilton Team VERTU Hyundai spun off and into the barrier at Island Bend.

A lengthy safety car period followed and the most telling moment of the contest happened even before racing was back underway with long-time leader Taylor-Smith continued weaving his Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport Toyota after the safety car lights were out.

This was a clear breach of the regulations which warrants a five-second time penalty, ultimately handing the lead to Cammish's #27 Ford Focus Titanium.

Cammish was made to work hard for the victory, however, with Speedworks Corolla Racing's Josh Cook keeping him honest until the chequered flag.

There was another pulsating battle behind between two BTCC champions โ€“ Ash Sutton (NAPA Racing UK) and Tom Ingram (Team VERTU) โ€“ as the pair swapped paint on a number of occasions.

They had already disposed of Mikey Doble's Audi A3 Saloon before continuing their race long battle, which included heavy contact from Ingram at the final corner on lap nine of 13.

Ingram recognised the error and let Sutton back past with the title protagonists eventually finishing third and fourth respectively.
