Why Leclerc's 'ashamed' of Barcelona F1 qualifying crash

Charles Leclerc felt “ashamed” over crashing out of qualifying for Formula 1’s Barcelona Grand Prix.
Leclerc lost control of his Ferrari SF-26 while trying to correct a snap through the long Turn 4 right-hander and speared into the barriers.
As that was his first flying lap of Q3, it leaves him 10th on the grid for Sunday’s race, while team-mate Lewis Hamilton snuck his Ferrari onto the front row.
“I tried to release the brakes earlier, trying to carry more speed as I knew it was the main weakness, if not the only weakness, because we were very fast in all corners,” Leclerc said.
“I tried to carry more speed in, it worked out, but then I went on traction on the dirty side of the track and lost the rear, but there's not much to excuse myself.”
Team-mate Hamilton suggested the crash may have been the result of a difference between the two that Leclerc will have seen on the data.
"We basically had the exact same set-up now in quali - and Charles has been quick all weekend," he said. "I think on the data I was braking very late into Turn 4, which had been visible, and I think Charles probably tried to carry a lot of speed into that corner, and unfortunately it didn't work out for him."
The big story for Leclerc heading into the weekend was the swap from Brembo to Carbon Industrie brake discs this weekend, Leclerc having struggled throughout the Montreal and Monaco weekends, crashing out of the latter.
But did the brakes play any kind of role in Leclerc’s off?
“No, no, no, there's none of that and honestly, I adapted very well straight from FP2, I felt very at ease with it and there's nothing of that, there's no excuses on trying to find a reference or whatsoever,” Leclerc said.
“I feel very ashamed, after the last three weekends that have been particularly difficult for me to find pace for issues I had, today and this weekend, I think everything felt really, really good and in these days I need to deliver and I didn't.
“So I feel very ashamed in general.”
Asked by The Race if he’d stick with Carbon Industrie brake discs for future weekends, Leclerc said “yes”.
Leclerc - who also described himself as "ashamed" five separate times when speaking to Sky Sports - said “I think we can do great tomorrow” and was “optimistic” of fighting back from 10th and called the eight-part upgrade that Ferrari brought to the car a “significant step forward”.
