Brands Hatch one of three new additions to Formula E's next calendar

Formula E’s largest ever calendar of 13 events and 21 races has been ratified by the FIA at Tuesday's World Motor Sport Council.
The fresh schedule will include two distinct US events for the first time since the first Formula E season in 2014-15, two sets of back-to-back events, and a trio of new tracks for the all-electric championship at Brands Hatch, the Circuit of the Americas and Zandvoort.
The first Gen4 season will begin in Jeddah, with a double-header on the weekend before Christmas. It is scheduled to be the third time Formula E has raced at the track, which could be modified and/or extended for the Gen4 cars.
Formula E has back-up plans should it be difficult to race in Jeddah due to the ongoing instability in the area. Formula 1 was forced to cancel its planned Saudi Arabian Grand Prix earlier this year in April as a consequence of military conflict that has been ongoing in the Middle East.
"We are extraordinarily optimistic that if nothing changes for the worst, that we'll be there racing in Jeddah," Dodds told The Race last week.
"If there were to be a challenge in the time slot that we have Jeddah in the calendar for, we have various different options, and we have time to find alternative moments to place it into the calendar."
An Americas leg takes place from Mexico City's traditional early January date through a new event in February at COTA (on the NASCAR track configuration, as revealed by The Race in February), a second Miami E-Prix in the same month and then Sao Paulo in March, with the Brazilian venue reprising its inaugural March date from 2023.
Sanya will be a standalone race in April before Formula E takes in a five-venue European leg from early May to the end of June. This begins seven double-header events until the end of the season, with Berlin, Monaco and Brands Hatch in May. The Berlin and Monaco weekends will be the first of two back-to-back events in the calendar.
The Race has learned that Formula E and Brands Hatch signed a multi-year agreement to host a Formula E race at the end of May. Although not defined yet, it is believed that among the plans is for Formula E to call the event the 'London E-Prix hosted at Brands Hatch'.
Speaking about the selection of Brands Hatch as a replacement for the London ExCeL venue, which was deemed too cramped for the Gen4 cars, Dodds told The Race that Brands Hatch was chosen - Silverstone had also been in contention - partly because of its location.
"Silverstone were amazing to deal with, but two things you can't get away from is where they're based in the UK," said Dodds.
"They're quite a long way from a big metropolitan city, and the second thing is they have Formula 1, and they have WEC going there, so they already have two big world championship motorsports at Silverstone.
"Actually, for us to carve our own identity and our own personality, and talking to Jonathan [Palmer] and the team at MSV [circuit owner MotorSport Vision], we thought this is a really good opportunity for us to create a UK home."
Zandvoort is expected to have a similar moniker, with the Amsterdam E-Prix hosted at Zandvoort possible for the nomenclature of an event that will feature a Friday night race, followed by the second event on the Saturday afternoon across the June 18-19 weekend.
The second pair of back-to-back weekends come with the second Madrid E-Prix at Jarama, following on a few days after the Zandvoort weekend.
The season will culminate at the Tokyo E-Prix on July 24-25 with another two night races, held on the Friday and Saturday.
That event is a week later than the corresponding fixture this season. Formula E signed a new deal with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government recently, after looking at possible replacements earlier this year.
