Motorsport Manager game gets second edition 10 years after launch

A decade on from the first game's release, Motorsport Manager 2 is confirmed to be coming out in 2027.
Ahead of that - a release date has not yet been announced - is a gameplay reveal in the autumn, with more details coming about the game in the months ahead.
The original Motorsport Manager title for PC didn't have any official championship licenses but was praised for its in-depth off-track team management and engaging on-track racing action. Unfortunately, a sequel was never given a green light under old publisher Sega.
Earlier this year the developer, Playsport Games, regained the rights to the series from Sega and published a patch to the first game nearly a decade after Motorsport Manager's initial release.
The announcement of the second game promises single-seater, GT and endurance racing categories to all be included and players will still be tasked with developing cars, hiring staff, managing finances, as well as strategising race plans and reacting to events such as changing weather and safety cars.

Mods will be supported from day one, inevitably allowing players to add in any official motorsport championships, but the unlicensed approach of the Motorsport Manager series has allowed the developers to include features you wouldn't normally see in a licensed title.
For instance, the first game and its Bernie Ecclestone equivalent, called Ernie Hecklerock, had a casting vote on rule change votes which could include sprinklers to be added to the circuits - a reference to a suggestion previously made by the former F1 CEO.
While we don't know yet if the full plethora of rule changes and other more left-field aspects of the original will carry over to its sequel, the ethos of the original remains for the second entry.
"Freedom is one of the biggest advantages of Motorsport Manager 2," said Matt Hanlon, project lead at Playsport.
"Real-world motorsport is an inspiration, not a limitation. We can draw from different eras, disciplines, formats, rivalries, and stories to create a motorsport world that feels authentic, dramatic, and full of possibility."
To celebrate the announcement of Motorsport Manager 2, the original title is currently being sold in the Steam Summer Sale for 80% off.
