Bezzecchi released from hospital after violent crash

MotoGP championship contender Marco Bezzecchi will be released from hospital having escaped injury in his violent Dutch Grand Prix crash.
The Aprilia rider lost control in the fast Ramshoek left-hander on lap two of the race and had a violent tumble through the gravel that left him in “extreme pain” according to his team.
But CT scans and x-rays showed no injuries and he will be discharged to travel home on Sunday evening.
Bezzecchi’s retirement from the race meant he lost the championship lead to team-mate Jorge Martin, whose third-place finish moved him seven points ahead.
The Assen weekend was littered with violent crashes that became more serious as the riders hit the gravel traps.
But there was no consensus in the paddock over a common cause.
Both Gresini Ducati riders were hurt in Friday practice crashes that developed in similar ways, with Fermin Aldeguer ruled out of the weekend with a fractured vertebra and Alex Marquez sustained a gouge to his arm but racing on and finishing fifth in the grand prix.
Tech3 KTM rider Maverick Vinales said the Bezzecchi crash was particularly shocking to watch.
“I've seen it, my goodness. I've seen it on the replay, and kind of like Aldeguer, when they hit the gravel, they fly so high,” he said.
“From the Bezzecchi crash it's hard to understand, but it can be the possibility that he's going really quick when he enters the gravel.
“But Aldeguer was not fast into the gravel, it was a little high side, but a normal crash [until he hit the gravel].”
