Arrow McLaren add Dixon and Rosenqvist for 2027 and beyond; Hunter-Reay returns for Indy 500 one-off

Arrow McLaren’s IndyCar team will have a revamped look for the 2027 season, with two new drivers.
Scott Dixon, the six-time IndyCar champion and Felix Rosenqvist, the reigning Indy 500 champion, will join Pato O’Ward at the Chevrolet powered team next season. Ryan Hunter-Reay will also return for the “500”, the team announced on Monday.
The moves to Arrow McLaren for Dixon and Rosenqvist have featured heavily in rumors over the last few weeks. Speculation ramped up during the Mid Ohio race weekend after Chip Ganassi Racing and Meyer Shank Racing announced the departures of their respective drivers in the days leading up to the race.
Dixon leaves CGR after 24 years of service, a tenure that saw six championships, the 2008 “500” win and 59 race wins. Dixon now looks forward to a change of scenery and the next step in his legendary racing career.
“Joining Arrow McLaren in 2027 is an exciting next step in my career,” Dixon said. “It was a big decision for myself, for my family, and I’m looking forward to contributing to what the team, Zak and Tony are building there. As a New Zealander, being part of Bruce McLaren’s legacy will be special; his spirit and grit are still very much rooted in that team, and I’m excited to carry that on.”
Rosenqvist departed Ohio-based Meyer Shank Racing after joining the team in 2024. The Swede now returns to Arrow McLaren, driving for them in 2021-2023, where he has an established relationship with O’Ward.
“I’m excited to return to Arrow McLaren next season and reunite with Pato, of course, and also Tony, Zak and the crew and engineers I worked with previously,” Rosenqvist said. “There are a lot of familiar faces, and we’ve got an incredible lineup with Scott joining and Ryan returning for the 500. I think our collective experience will be a huge benefit. I still have work to do to finish this season strong, but I’m looking forward to what’s to come at Arrow McLaren.”
While the team has set their superstar lineup for the full 2027 season and beyond, with Dixon and Rosenqvist on multi-year deals, Arrow McLaren will also have Hunter-Reay once again at the “500”.
The 2014 “500” winner was announced as Sporting Director on June 6 and looks to come back to the “500” with unfinished business.
“I have unfinished business with the 500, and so does this team,” Hunter-Reay said. ‘Our focus is on Indy; learn from the past, and our number one goal is to win the Indy 500. We have ample time to be fully prepared in working toward a big month of May in 2027 racing alongside Pato, Scott and Felix. The four of us certainly know our way around the Speedway. In the meantime, working with the team full time as Sporting Director offers a unique opportunity to have a direct impact on our ambitious development plans for the 2027 season, the Indy 500 and beyond.”
Departing Arrow McLaren are Christian Lundgaard and Nolan Siegel. Both will leave after two year stints with the team. Lundgaard departs as one of the series top free agents, with two wins in 2026 to bolster his case for a potential team.
Siegel has shown an uptick in performance post-Long Beach and will continue to audition for potential suitors for the 2027 IndyCar season.
