Ferrari set the fastest times of FP2 for the 2026 Hungarian Grand Prix with Lewis Hamilton setting the benchmark ahead of Charles Leclerc, as Franco Colapinto crashed.

Hamilton’s fastest time of 1m18.729s was 0.148s faster than team-mate and FP1 leader Leclerc’s.

McLaren’s Lando Norris was third-fastest and almost half a second off the pace.

The session was red-flagged just before the halfway point as Alpine’s Colapinto (P21) spun on entry to the final corner and hit the barriers with the rear of his car.

Colapinto was ahead of Lance Stroll in 22nd by default as Aston Martin - arriving with a B-spec upgrade - could not repair the suspension damage that brought his first practice session to an end prematurely.

After Colapinto's crash, FP2 resumed with 26 minutes left, with a train of cars waiting to leave the pits for qualifying simulations on soft tyres - a few drivers having been interrupted by the red flag.

Max Verstappen finished fourth and almost seven-tenths off for Red Bull.

He complained of a “super stiff” rear axle and a lack of rear grip on his medium-tyre long run. Verstappen collected debris on track with around 20 minutes left - but no major damage was reported.

George Russell rounded out the top five for Mercedes, 0.933s off the pace. His team-mate and championship leader Kimi Antonelli was 13th and the only driver to have set their fastest lap on mediums rather than softs.

Antonelli, who was almost two seconds off the pace, complained of rear lockups under braking as he chased a better set-up throughout FP2.

Isack Hadjar finished sixth for Red Bull, 1.071s off the pace, while Liam Lawson was three-tenths behind for Racing Bulls - in an upgraded car.

Oscar Piastri was 1.372s off the benchmark in eighth with McLaren having replaced its 'Macarena' rear wing on both cars for this session.

Nico Hulkenberg was two-hundredths behind Piastri in ninth and Arvid Lindblad was 1.524s off the pace in 10th.

Gabriel Bortoleto was 11th for Audi and Esteban Ocon was 12th for Haas, the pair split by under a tenth.

Pierre Gasly was 14th to his stricken team-mate’s 21st. Behind was the Haas of Ollie Bearman then the Williams pair of Alex Albon and Carlos Sainz respectively.

Valtteri Bottas, 18th for Cadillac, was almost three-tenths faster than 19th-place Fernando Alonso - who complained of vibrations from the Honda power unit - as the Spaniard's car was almost bathed in green flow-vis paint late in the afternoon.
