World Superbike frontrunner and factory Ducati racer Iker Lecuona will replace Gresini Racing’s Fermin Aldeguer for MotoGP's British Grand Prix.

The 2025 rookie of the year Aldeguer remains sidelined while recovering from the injuries he sustained at the Dutch TT in Assen last month.

Aldeguer crashed at the Duikersloot corner during Friday practise at Assen, breaking his T7 vertebra in the process. Recovering well since then and given clearance by his medical team to return to riding on August 15, it’s nonetheless too late for Silverstone and will instead see him targeting a home return at Aragon in one month’s time.

He’ll be replaced at Gresini by former MotoGP racer Lecuona, who steps in for the team for the second time this season after replacing Alex Marquez on the other side of the team’s box at the Hungarian Grand Prix, as Marquez himself recovered from a broken vertebra sustained in Barcelona.

Lecuona had a standout MotoGP return at Balaton Park, qualifying P16 before finishing a very impressive seventh place in Sunday’s main race.

Since his appearance in Hungary, he’s also had success elsewhere, finally breaking team-mate Nicolo Bulega’s stunning 25-race winning streak in World Superbikes by taking victory at Donington Park earlier this month.

Aldeguer's second MotoGP season had already been compromised by a broken leg suffered in a training accident at the start of January, which ruled him out of all of pre-season testing and the opening round.
