Defending MotoGP champion Marc Marquez dominated the Aragon sprint after overtaking title rival Marco Bezzecchi.

Bezzecchi looked to have got a decent enough launch from pole, but Marquez had enough room on the inside to force Bezzecchi to the outside on corner exit - taking the lead and allowing brother Alex Marquez to sneak through, too.

They controlled the race from there, aided by the longer-lasting medium rear tyre, with Bezzecchi never really threatening on the soft rear and ultimately settling into third place.

His team-mate, championship leader Jorge Martin, also ran the soft rear but was frustrated in the early going by fellow Aprilia rider Raul Fernandez - which began as Fernandez retook fourth place on the outside of Turn 2 after losing the spot to Martin at the start.

Their robust wheel-to-wheel racing later into the lap dropped both behind KTM's Pedro Acosta, before Martin cleared Fernandez and went back past Acosta.

But the medium rear-shod Acosta bided his time behind the points leader and when Martin made a mistake at the penultimate corner, Acosta went past and consolidated fourth.

Martin's fifth-place finish means he is now 29 points ahead of Bezzecchi and 33 ahead of race winner Marquez. The injury-absent Ai Ogura is 42 back and Fabio Di Giannantonio remains 46 adrift, after crashing out from eighth place early on.

Fermin Aldeguer was 10th after the start but scythed his way through into sixth place by the end of the race, overtaking Diogo Moreira on the final lap - with Moreira settling for top Honda honours in seventh.

Fernandez and Johann Zarco, Aldeguer's fellow injury returnee and Moreira's LCR team-mate, completed the points-scoring top nine, with Jack Miller just a tenth away from picking up a point from Yamaha.

The only other rider to crash besides Di Giannantonio was Luca Marini, who exited the race on the opening lap.

Fabio Quartararo also didn't finish, his Yamaha suffering what looked like an engine blow-up just before halfway.
