Garry Rogers: 1945-2025
Long time V8 Supercars team owner Garry Rogers passed away last week at 80 years old.
Whilst all at DSC are firm fans of the Aussie brand of touring car racing, and Garry’s team were winners of the Bathurst 1000 in 2000, with added heritage and success in a whole range of other Aussie racing, Garry’s memorial here is principally down to his team holding a unique record – Unbeaten double winners of the Bathurst 24 Hours.

Whilst the 12 Hour is now a firm part of the GT Endurance race calendar its short-lived predecessor ran over the twice-around-the-clock for just two years.
Both overall wins were taken by the Garry Rogers Motorsport built and operated Holden Monaro 427Cs, the cars built with monster 7 litre GM V8s including tech from both V8 Supercars and the factory Corvette C5-Rs.

The Monaros (three were built) contested the 24 Hours and the CAMS-organised ‘Nations Cup’ taking the overall win at Bathurst in 2002 with Cameron McConville, Nathan Pretty, Steven Richards and Garth Tander, a one-two in 2003 (the win taken by Jason Bright, Peter Brock, Todd Kelly and Greg Murphy) plus five overall Nations Cup race wins.
Controversial in their time there’s little doubt that the mighty Monaro’s contributed to the drive to maintain a true endurance GT presence in Australia. They remain true Aussie racing legends – as will their creator – RIP Garry Rogers
