The first clues of Aston Martin’s much-anticipated B-spec car have emerged on Friday at Formula 1’s Hungarian Grand Prix. 

The team is overhauling its initial 2026 car with a huge two-step upgrade split across Hungary and Zandvoort, the latter of which will debut alongside Honda’s sole 2026 engine upgrade. 

On Thursday, very few details of the new Aston Martin could be seen, but by Friday morning at the Hungaroring, the new-look sidepod, floor and rear wing were present on the cars in the garage.

There appeared to be a bigger 'mouse hole' on the floor and a different rear wing actuator.

There had been, in the words of Aston Martin’s chief trackside officer Mike Krack, a “$1million question” over whether Aston Martin would have enough parts to run the upgrade on both cars, but on Thursday in Hungary he said he was “quite confident that we will be ready”

He suggested Aston Martin would “move in a different direction” from some of its more extreme design choices such as the aggressive rear ride height of the car.

There are clear modifications to the bargeboard area and sidepod profile too.

Krack also said the Aston Martin B-spec’s debut would be a big test of the team’s data and simulations tools. 

“When you bring substantial upgrades, it's something that the track team will have to learn as quick as possible,” he explained. 

“We have no winter testing where you can just do some runs on back-to-backs and all that. So it puts obviously a lot of emphasis on the quality of your data, on the quality of understanding your simulations. 

“But we do not expect that we get everything out of it in the first run tomorrow. We need to learn how to manage this and how to get the best out of it.

“The tests that we will have to do, basic tests, be it right height, be it rakes and these kinds of things will come over the next events.”
